Overview
This multidisciplinary course examines social and legal dimensions of harms from traditional and generative AI systems. You will learn to identify unfair, opaque, or otherwise problematic behaviors, conduct fairness audits for black-box and white-box systems, and apply practical techniques to mitigate harms such as discrimination, privacy violations, and arbitrariness. We will also cover when key laws apply and how to build compliant systems.
Through case studies in finance, housing, and employment, plus hands-on coding in Python, you will develop technical and legal tools to assess and improve AI systems in ways that are practically applicable in real organizations.
